In the world of stand up paddle boards, there are some brands that manage to stand out from the crowd due to an innovative construction technology, quality materials, or prompt customer service. Atoll is one of those brands that accustomed surfers with the highest quality products and their 11′ board, also called Cruiser Deluxe, is proof that they are constantly improving their offer. This is one of the longest inflatable paddle boards on the market so it resembles stability and a wide range of uses. However, the price is also noticeable, exceeding the $1,000 range but thankfully, it can be acquired for less if it enjoys discounts.

Design and construction

The entire construction is of a solid yet portable board. Although it’s inflatable to increase portability, it’s made of a resistant and lightweight dual-layer PVC that is 30% lighter than the one used in the majority of the models. The dual-layer means that it is reinforced with a second PVC layer on both the top and the bottom to ensure more rigidity, thus, a more stable surface. For maximum resistance to pressure, Atoll has used the famous Korean drop-stitch to connect the top and bottom layer.

The model is slightly sharpened at the front nose, with a small nose rocker and a flat back end. It measures 11′ long, 32” wide, and 6” thick. When deflated, the paddleboard rolls to 32” x 12” so you can easily carry it to the water and back. There are 14 D-rings placed all over the surface, 6 on the nose, 4 in the center, and 4 on the tail so that you can attach to it everything you need to carry with you. The inflating nature of the item asks for a pump and this one comes with a manual pump that usually is more annoying because you have to push down on it then pull it up in order to collect more air and push again. This is where the innovative part comes in. In order to inflate the Atoll SUP board, the manufacturer has designed a high-pressure dual action pump that inflates by pulling up and down in order to minimize effort. Given that the pump is manual, this detail is very helpful as it cuts the effort in half and inflates the product two times faster. The average inflate time is 5 minutes to reach an optimal 15psi level but if you are faster and stronger, you can have it up in around 3 minutes. Inflating it by hand will also be a workout before hitting the waters so you will benefit both ways.

Volume and capacity

The capacity is important in learning the volume and buoyancy of a SUP board, meaning how well it will float on water without sinking under the weight of the user. The Atoll paddle board has supported riders weighing a maximum of 300 lbs so it’s quite sturdy for one heavy person, two lighter persons, or a person and a dog. The volume is not listed anywhere but it refers to the density of the foam in relation to the user’s weight and height. Given that it can support heavy riders, we can assume that the volume exceeds 250 liters, like in similar models.

Best use

The shape indicates the suitability of an inflatable paddle board for a variety of activities on the water. Cruiser Deluxe is best suited for all-round and flatwater cruising, waves surfing, and it can also be ridden during water yoga classes. It’s a board that can be used by novice and experienced surfers alike although it’s a little bigger than the average models. The size can compensate for a lack of skills and will provide extra stability.

Accessories

Aside from the paddle board itself, the accessories that come with it influence its versatility and ease of use. This one comes with all the necessary and important ones, such as a black aluminum paddle that can be height-adjusted to suit various rider heights. The paddle is incredibly lightweight, at only 2.2 lbs, and has a solid nylon blade that allows it to cut through the water. You will also find an extra removable fin that easily slips out of place without the need of a screwdriver. You can also match any other type of fin found on the market. For easy transportation, you will also receive a heavy-duty nylon backpack that can fit the board deflated and all the included accessories, among which we mention the hand pump, the repair kit, and the front and back bungee cords. The backpack includes a waist strap to secure the board during transportation. What it doesn’t include is a leash for safety in use but it can always be purchased separately.

Warranty and durability

When it comes to durability, you can rest assured with this SUP board because it’s made of lasting and quality materials. It’s so resistant that not even dogs’ claws can break it and it can even be hit by rocks and it will not deflate or tear. However, for any incident that might occur, there is a helpful repair kit included for fixing minor tears. Moreover, the manufacturer backs the product with a 2-year warranty, which is the standard found in most models. The official website can be consulted for details on customer service or for any kind of accessories or similar products.
