Among all the stand up paddle boards on the market, there are some models that manage to stand out and gain the trust and appreciation of surfers of all ages. One of those models is the Tower Adventurer 2, a large board designed for heavy riders. It’s not the most affordable choice yet, it’s one of the best possible due to the high durability and excellent maneuverability. Let’s see what makes this board so popular.

Design and construction

Nonetheless, the material used in designing the board says much about its rigidity and durability. Being an inflatable model, the main concern is that it will deflate over time or worse, break in case you slam it against rocks. Thankfully, this is not the case with the Tower 2 because it’s made of a highly durable military grade PVC that will not be damaged even if it gets into contact with rocks, cement, or sharp objects. Even dogs can ride it without the risk of scratching it with their claws. This board was designed for tall and heavy people as it measures 10’4” long by 32” wide by 6” thick and it weighs 26 lbs. It has an elongated shape with a narrow nose and a wider tail which allows it to cut through the water and adapt to many paddling styles. The nose rocker is 4 inches angled while the tail rocker is plain.

Compared to other boards, it’s very rigid and it won’t bend even if you suspend it on two chairs and stand in its middle. Its construction allows it to remain stiff even when the pressure is applied only in one spot so it will not bend or break if you press hard on it. Since it’s a large model, you would assume that it will take a lot of time to inflate it but you will be surprised to learn that it takes mere minutes to have it up and ready for a swim. It inflates to a maximum of 25 psi although at a maximum of 11 psi it feels as solid as an epoxy model with the advantage that it can be rolled up and carried with ease. When deflated and rolled, it measures 1 foot long and 33 inches wide. For easy transportation when inflated, the Tower has a large handle at the middle and two other handles at the nose and tail so you can always attach a carrying strap to it. The deck pad is a diamond groove one that prevents slipping and helps you stand while paddling even if water gets on the board. There are 4 D-rings at the deck tied with a bungee cord to allow you to take more items with you on the water. The design also includes 3 fins at the tail, the middle one being detachable.

Volume and capacity

The fact that it’s a 6” thick model allows it to swim higher in the water so you won’t get your feet wet so easily. Plus, it has a great buoyancy so it can carry large weights of nearly 400lbs, being one of the models with the highest capacities. Despite the fact it’s rather bulky and heavy, it still manages to provide a great ability to float and it will remain on the water surface no matter how much gear you load on it. The volume is unknown exactly but it’s probably 300 liters and up, considering the high weight limit.

Best use

This is one of the most versatile boards available out there that can be used by the entire family. It’s perfect for any type of water, be it a lake, river, or ocean, and it can be used for yoga, tandem paddling, or mild surfing in waves 4 feet high or less. It’s not very good for racing because it doesn’t provide enough speed although many people have taken it for a race and it has proven very easy to maneuver, which helped gain velocity.

Accessories

There are many accessories included with the Tower Adventurer 2, starting with the hand pump with a pressure gauge that will help you inflate it at the proper pressure and the adjustable paddle that can be adapted to the height of multiple users. A carrying bag is not included because rolling the board and tying it with a strap is enough to make it easily portable. You will also receive the deck pad which is not actually an accessory but an integrated part, as well as the center removable fin. The repair kit that includes patches and a valve wrench will come in handy when trying to fix a small tear.

Warranty and durability

We can state that this is one of the most stable and robust SUP boards, if not the best in its size range. It’s incredibly firm and can withstand heavy use with little care. Although it will show normal signs of use over time, you can be positive that it will remain in perfect condition year after year. In case something goes wrong with it, the manufacturer has your back with the 2-year warranty that covers the unusual damage. This is a standard warranty provided for these boards and it will offer you peace of mind. If you want an excellent stand up paddle board that feels as strong as an epoxy board but also allows you to quickly deflate and store it away, look no further. The Tower Adventurer 2 that measures 10’4” long is among the best models available, with a sturdy construction and great performance on the water.
